This is one of the most common questions we receive! The truth is that personality and temperament matter far more than gender. We have wonderful boys and girls in our program, and over the years we've found that the right puppy is usually the one with the temperament best suited to your family, not necessarily the one of a particular gender.

Many families come to us convinced they want a boy or a girl, only to fall in love with the opposite. In the end, the puppy's personality is what matters most.

At BLL, puppies are matched based on temperament, energy level, family lifestyle, and individual needs. While we always take your preferences into consideration, our goal is to place each puppy in the home where they are most likely to thrive.

After spending eight weeks raising, socializing, and evaluating the litter, we know each puppy's personality extremely well. Our experience has shown that matching puppies based on temperament leads to the happiest outcomes for both puppies and their families.

Can I choose my puppy?

Australian Labradoodles are active, intelligent dogs that enjoy daily exercise and time with their families. Most do well with a combination of walks, playtime, training, and mental enrichment. While they love adventures, they are happiest when included in everyday family life.

How much exercise does an Australian Labradoodle need?

Yes. While Australian Labradoodle puppies love to run, play, and explore, their growth plates remain open throughout much of their first year. Repetitive, high-impact exercise such as jogging, long runs, forced hikes, and excessive stair climbing can place unnecessary stress on developing joints.

We recommend avoiding jogging with your puppy until at least 12 to 18 months of age, depending on their size and development. Stairs do not need to be completely avoided, but we do encourage families to minimize repeated trips up and down stairs during the first year whenever possible.

The good news is that puppies do not need structured exercise to stay healthy. Free play, walks, training sessions, and opportunities to safely explore the world around them are more than enough during this important growth period.

Should I avoid jogging and excessive stairs with my puppy?

Yes! We regularly work with families across Canada and have also placed puppies internationally. Whether you are located a few hours away or across the globe, we are happy to help coordinate safe transportation for your puppy.
Depending on your location, puppies may travel by air, ground transportation, or with a trusted flight nanny. We are always happy to discuss the options available and help determine the best travel plan for your family and your puppy.

Do you ship puppies across Canada and internationally?

Most Australian Labradoodles look best in a natural teddy bear trim. We recommend discussing your preferences with your groomer and bringing photos of dogs whose look you love.

Some families prefer a shorter, lower-maintenance trim, while others enjoy a longer, fluffier look. There is no right or wrong answer. The most important thing is choosing a style that fits your lifestyle and grooming routine. The diagram highlights the grooming style we typically recommend.

How should I have my Australian Labradoodle groomed?

Most Australian Labradoodles benefit from professional grooming every 8 - 10 weeks, along with regular brushing at home. Keeping up with grooming appointments helps prevent matting and keeps your dog's coat healthy, comfortable, and looking its best.

How often does my Australian Labradoodle need grooming?

Australian Labradoodles are highly social dogs that love being with their families. While they are not necessarily prone to separation anxiety, they can become very attached to their people if independence is not encouraged from an early age.

With more families working from home than ever before, we recommend intentionally teaching puppies how to be comfortable on their own. This may include spending time in a crate, playpen, or another safe space while family members are still in the home. Learning that it is okay to be alone is an important life skill for every puppy. With proper training, routine, and confidence-building, your Australian Labradoodles will grow into a well-adjusted dog that can comfortably relax on their own when needed.

Are Australian Labradoodles prone to separation anxiety?

While no dog is truly 100% hypoallergenic, Australian Labradoodles are one of the most allergy-friendly breeds available. Their low-shedding fleece coats produce less dander and hair in the environment than many other breeds, making them a wonderful option for many allergy sufferers. Because allergies vary from person to person, we always recommend spending time with Australian Labradoodles before making a commitment if allergies are a concern.

Are Australian Labradoodles hypoallergenic?

Australian Labradoodles are considered a low-shedding breed. While you may occasionally find a few hairs on clothing or furniture, they do not typically shed like many traditional dog breeds. Regular brushing and grooming help keep their coats healthy and beautiful while minimizing loose hair around the home.

Do Australian Labradoodles shed?

Absolutely! One of the reasons we fell in love with the breed is their wonderful temperament with children. Australian Labradoodles are known for being gentle, affectionate, intelligent, and eager to please. As with any dog, children should always be taught how to interact respectfully and all interactions should be supervised.
